Bathroom Remodeling/Renovation

  • A bathroom remodel involves replacing one or more existing fixtures, surfaces, and/or finishes to give it an updated look. From simple projects that refresh an older bathroom with new tile or a new vanity to complex multi-fixture jobs such as a complete “gut job” to update the entire room and layout. There are several steps involved, including planning/design, demolition, plumbing/electrical work, installation of new fixtures (like sinks, toilets, showers/tubs), flooring and tiling, painting, and final additions like lighting and accessories. Each project can vary based on the extent of the remodel and your specific goals.

  • Decide if you want a complete “gut-job” to remove all existing fixtures and finishes or if you are leaning more to a cosmetic update like changing the finishes and color scheme. Once you have decided to remodel or renovate it, you should settle on a design for your new bathroom. You can gather ideas online or speak to a professional to help with this part. Now that you have decided on a design, order or buy the fixtures you want well in advance of your remodel. If the styles or colors are not available, it may be necessary to delay your remodeling until they are back in stock.

  • The cost of a bathroom remodel is personalized to each client’s needs. Cost can vary widely depending on factors like the size of the bathroom, the quality of materials used, and whether you are doing a full remodel or just making cosmetic updates. Adding a master suite with an ADA or accessible bathroom can increase the total price range and construction costs. On average, a bathroom remodel can range from a few thousand dollars for a basic update to tens of thousands for a complete remodel with high-end materials and fixtures. Each situation is different, and it is impossible to give a specific answer without knowing exactly what kind of changes the homeowner has in mind. Certainly, adding a whirlpool tub or replacing an old pedestal sink will drive up the cost.

  • Most residential bathrooms can be completed within 8 to 12 days from the start date. However, the duration of a bathroom remodel can vary based on factors like the project's scope, the bathroom's size, and the availability of materials and contractors. On average it can take anywhere from 1 to 2 weeks for a basic bathroom remodel, while longer or more complex bathroom projects may take 4 to 6 weeks or even longer depending on your specific needs, the scope of work for your project, and bathroom size.

  • Consider having all the renovations completed at one time. Often a homeowner finds it difficult to find time to do multiple projects and most professionals agree that it is best to complete all the renovations at once. This will avoid feelings of ceaseless construction and disorder and ensure that your home is renovated as one project not different ones.

  • The most common guest bathroom has a tub/shower combination, and a master bathroom may include a walk-in shower and a traditional bathtub. Currently, there is an increasing trend that poses a demand for standalone showers due to the space they save in smaller bathrooms thus creating accessible and universally designated bathrooms to accommodate all ages and abilities. The latest trends in bathroom design often involve a focus on sustainability, incorporating natural materials like wood and stone, minimalist and clutter-free layouts, smart technology integration, and spa-like features such as rainfall showers and soaking tubs.

  • Yes, a walk-in shower will add more value to your home than one with a tub/shower combo. Many people are choosing to remodel their bathrooms to accommodate standalone showers and when building new homes for reasons of greater ease and convenience while bathing.

  • A stall shower has side walls and a door with an open bottom that is flush with the rest of the floor. The other most common type of shower is the walk-in-shower also called the “curtainless” or “open” shower.

  • No, not at all. If you do want to put in a tub and the home does not already have one, consider putting in a free-standing walk-in tub rather than replacing it with a standard shower. You will get more for your money that way.

  • Ceramic or porcelain tiles are sure to be excellent choices for floors in bathrooms and other wet areas in the home. A mat finish will add to the safety of your new floors. The grout lines may be sealed with a high-performance grout sealer but is not typically needed with high quality grout options. If a less quality material is used a high-performance sealant will help prevent mold growth and water damage. Marble is another good flooring choice for bathrooms. If the marble is treated, it can be used outdoors as well. With a polished surface and nice sheen, it requires less maintenance than other stone types.

  • It is better to have a bathroom that works well rather than doing something you may regret later. For example, if the plumbing cannot handle an extra shower head, do not add it until the plumbing is upgraded. Although some people are great at DIY, this is one of those areas where it is best to hand it off to a professional, especially when dealing with a more complex remodeling.

Kitchen Remodeling/Renovation

  • Typically, a full kitchen remodel from start to finish takes between 6-9 weeks from start of construction to its completion. This depends on many factors such as cabinetry type, countertop lead times, contractor availability etc.

  • After having finalized your design, ensure that all your selections are ordered and on site prior to beginning your project. This helps eliminate having your kitchen out of commission for an extended period.

  • Kitchen remodels are a daunting task to undertake. You absolutely can live in your home during a kitchen remodel, however if there is another option for lodging, it is best for you to stay there during the duration of your remodel. If you do choose to stay at home during the remodel, it would be wise to invest in an alternative cooking option such as a decent grill and a temporary dishwashing station as eating out will get old and rack up expenses quite rapidly. You can live in your home during a kitchen remodel, but we do not recommend it as it could be incredibly stressful having no access to the heart of your home.

  • Though ‘inexpensive’ is a subjective word it can have wildly differing price points. The most benefit for the least amount of money would be to do the following:

    - Paint or refinish your cabinets to give a newer feel and bring youth to a worn kitchen.

    - Upgrade your countertops, sink, faucet, and add a backsplash to provide a refreshing improvement.

    - Beyond that, we would suggest mixing and matching the following:

    · Modernizing the door and drawer style with new cabinet doors and drawers

    · Updating the lighting to recessed LED lighting.

    · Adding under cabinet lighting.

    · Updating the flooring.

    · Updating your appliances.

Once you get above that scope of work, your next upgrade tier will include new cabinetry and entirely change the layout. These changes make the biggest difference without a doubt, however, are also the costliest.

Home Remodeling/Renovation

  • A home remodel can include more than one area within the home as opposed to just the bathroom or the kitchen. A home renovation can include anything from as much as updating just the flooring, lighting, fixtures, or other cosmetic updates throughout the house. Complex remodeling can entail much more significant improvements like re-purposing spaces, moving walls, replacing/adding storage solutions or other conveniences to the home. Complete home remodels may also include the bathroom(s) and/or kitchen, and usually extend to other areas.

  • A remodeling project begins with planning sessions where you and our team meet, you can express your wants and needs for your remodel, and your budget can be discussed during this initial phase as well. We pride ourselves in helping our clients create their dream home and offer the creative guidance they may need in bringing their remodeling vision to life. Once you are satisfied with the proposed design, an estimate will be created detailing the scope and work that will be done along with a schedule for completing it all. When your remodeling plan and budget are confirmed, we can begin the remodeling project. We will always keep you up-to-date and involved in your remodel at every stage.

  • Firstly, think about the ways you currently use your home as well as the problems and/or inconveniences you would like to resolve. What changes will make your home more comfortable and suit you best? Do you enjoy entertaining? What modifications will make your home more appealing and comfortable for you and your family’s needs? We can help you identify these things during the planning stage and give purpose and direction to your remodel. Secondly, we are committed to making your remodeling experience one that you feel comfortable with. We will create a budget and checklist of what is needed in every stage to take the guesswork out of the equation giving you as much control in the project as you see fit and allowing you to plan ahead and meet goals.

  • When planning a whole home remodel, think about what improvements will help you and your family enjoy your house more. The projects that bring the most return to your investment may include bathroom updates or remodels, kitchen remodels including new appliances, new flooring, update lighting, removing or moving walls to create living and work areas that are more open and user-friendly, perhaps adding a large master closet, adding a second bathroom, updating cabinets or installing additional storage space, adding a bedroom, multipurpose room or home office.

  • There are many factors involved in the cost of a home remodel and renovation, it is impossible to estimate the cost without a full understanding of what the project will entail. You can expect to pay less for improvements that are mostly cosmetic and not to involve moving walls or changing the layout of any rooms or the position of any utilities that a more complex remodel may include. Adding Luxury appliances and fixtures, completely changing the layout or replacing cabinets, countertops, and flooring will all increase the cost of any remodel based on the quality of the materials and of course the brands you choose. The cost of remodeling your home can range anywhere from a few thousand dollars to tens of thousands depending on the scope of your project and budget.

  • The length of time that is involved in home remodeling varies depending on the extent of improvements being made. Smaller remodeling jobs can be completed in as little as a few days or a week while extensive more complex remodels may take weeks to months to complete. We will provide an approximate work schedule and time estimate for a remodeling project so that you can know what to expect.

  • Depending on the scope of the project, we will work closely with you to instruct you on what should be done to prepare the house so that work can begin. We will explain what furnishings and personal items should be removed from specific rooms and anything else that should be done so that work can begin. We will provide you with a checklist and timeline to avoid the guesswork and help you plan ahead. You should prepare to be without the use of your kitchen, bathroom, or whatever other space is being remodeled for a period of time while that room is completed. To best protect any property, any valuable or fragile items should be safely stored away from the work area.
